"My Journey" vs. "Experience": How Headers Confuse Robots

Being creative with your section titles can confuse the resume parser. Learn the standard headings that ensure your data lands in the right database fields.

The Mapping Problem

An ATS doesn't "read" your CV; it maps it. It looks for signposts to tell it where to put your data in the database.

If your work history is under a header called "My Professional Journey," the parser might not recognise it. It treats that data as "Unassigned" or "Miscellaneous."

The Result: Your profile in the recruiter's system shows zero years of experience.

The Safe List

Boring is better. Stick to the standard headers that every parser is hard-coded to recognise:

  • Work Experience (Not "Where I've Been")
  • Education (Not "My Learning")
  • Skills (Not "Competencies & Superpowers")
  • Certifications

Save your creativity for the bullet points. Keep the signposts standard.
